William J. Smyth

William J. Smyth is Senior Counsel at Ruttenberg Cutler Broomer, LLP. His practice focuses on conservatorship, fiduciary, trust, probate, and estate litigation.  

William received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine and his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. He has been licensed to practice law in the State of California since 2009. He is admitted to practice in all California state courts, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California.

Before joining Ruttenberg Cutler Broomer, LLP, William was a Senior Associate Attorney at Wright Kim Douglas, ALC in Glendale, CA. Prior to that,  he was a Partner at his own firm, SW Smyth LLP in Los Angeles, CA. After over 12 years of private practice, William gained meaningful experience handling a wide array of legal matters including, but not limited to, bankruptcy law, trusts and estates, probate, family law, unlawful detainers, landlord-tenant disputes, and general civil litigation. He has trial experience in both California state courts and Federal courts. He has also appeared in front of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel (BAP) for the Ninth Circuit.  

From 2018 through 2022, William was selected to the Southern California Super Lawyers – Rising Stars list, an honor reserved for those lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice.
